On Friday 19 November 2010 John Best, a retired Police Brigadier and member of the Koukamma Branch of SA Hunters and Game Conservation Association received a call for help, after the poaching of two Amakhala Rhino bulls, namely Chippy and Isipho on 16 November 2010.

John’s assistance with the protection of the Rhino was requested.

John immediately. contacted Mr Jaap Pienaar ,Deputy Director in the Department of Economic Affairs, Enviroment and Tourism (DEAET) in Bhisho.

John also of contacted Rodney Visser, the Shamwari Group Security Manager and requested to meet with him. They met on Tuesday 23 November 2010.
During this meeting it was decided that the General Manager of DEAET,
Eastern Cape would be approached and requested to investigate the possible approval of Honorary Nature and Enviromental Officers (HNECO) also known as Green Scorpions.

John proposed that members of the Koukamma Branch of SA Hunters and Game Association be approached to volunteer as Green Scorpions.
