End Of Phase 1

During March 2011 John Best and Rodney Visser compiled a report that was sent to DEAET. It is common knowledge that the involvement of the Green Scorpions assisted with the fact that not a single Rhino was injured or poached between December 2010 and March 2011.

Staring of Phase 2
After evaluating the report DEAET decided to proceed with the 2nd phase of the project from 1 December 2011 till 30 November 2012.
A total of 18 posts were approved and awarded to members of SA Hunters and Game Conservation Association.

Recruitment
15 Members of the Koukamma Branch and 3 members of the Kwagga Branch applied to be appointed as Green Scorpions. The members were vetted by the SAPS.during November 2011.

Phase 2 training

The 18 members attended a training session at Shamwari Game reserve on 5 November 2011 Their training once again included:

Crime Scene Management
Current situation and feedback on previous project.

Operational and Co-ordination
The HNECO’s (Green Scorpions) commenced their duties on 12 November 2011. Members used their private transport to perfom duties. A total of 205 hours
of patrolling and observation were performed during November 2011.
A total of 354 hours of patrolling and observation were performed during December 2011.This included duty on Christmas eve, Christmas day , Old years eve and NewYears Day.
